ATDPTI Audio Diary Project---Description
The goal of the The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian (ATDPTI) Audio Diary Project was to reveal the events in ATDPTI from a secondary character's point of view through an "audio diary". Each group in the project was assigned a character, tasked with writing a script for, recording, and editing our character's very own audio diary. The ATDPTI Audio Diary Project served as a ramp into the (broader) Podcast Project that we worked on later in the year. This was also the first project of my Sophomore year at HTHCV.

Part 1: Reading ATDPTI---Description
We launched the ATDPTI Audio Diary Project by reading Sherman Alexie's "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian".

Part 1: Reading ATDPTI---Reflection
ATDPTI is told from the view of a certain fourteen-year-old boy named Junior. A victim of harsh poverty and relentless bullying all his life, Junior's world is further scrambled as he dares to leave his hometown on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Washington state in search of a brighter future. Purpose, hope, fear, courage, inspiration, tragedy, and perseverance are a few themes that Junior encounters throughout his journey in ATDPTI. Although it was certainly a uniquely-crafted piece, as it is written in diary-like entries, it was not one of my favorite books. That is not to say that it is bad, I just prefer solid symbolism and smart word usage over messy, diary-style writing.

Part 2: Writing Our Audio Diary Scripts---Description
Upon finishing the book, we were each assigned a character and tasked with creating an audio diary from our character's perspective during the events of ATDPTI. Once we had our character, we re-analyzed places in ATDPTI where our character appears and wrote our audio diary script. My group's assigned character was Roger, the Reardan High School jock.

Part 2: Writing Our Audio Diary Scripts---Reflection
This part of the project was a learning experience for me, at least. I had never written a script before, and it was a bit hard to emulate the voice of our character from ATDPTI into the script. Also, sometimes I got frustrated with some of my group mates because of our conflicting ideas, so all of this was basically a new chance for me to practice patience with people I don't work well with.

Part 3: Recording and Editing Our Audio Diary---Description
After we had composed our audio diary script, we recorded it and organized each clip on an audio-editing software called Audacity.

Part 3: Recording and Editing Our Audio Diary---Reflection
Because the writing of our script took too much time, we were left with little time to actually record our audio diary and edit it, and so it follows that we were forced to wrap-up our work quickly, while at the same time keeping in mind that poor planning is hardly an excuse for poor work. Again, however, this can be seen as a good thing because we got to practice working under pressure.

ATDPTI Audio Diary Project---Reflection
Even though this project was the first one of tenth grade, I gained new things such as (very basic) audio editing skills, as well as experience with a genre of book that I don't usually read, and further insight into Native-American history.
